What is an EPC?
An Energy Performance Certificate (EPC) shows how energy efficient a property is. It gives the property an energy rating from A (most efficient) to G (least efficient) and includes recommendations to help improve energy efficiency.
How do I check an EPC?
You can view or download any existing EPC using the Government EPC Register .
How long does an EPC last?
An EPC is valid for 10 years from the date it is issued, unless a new assessment is carried out sooner.
How long does an appointment take?
Most EPC assessments take around 30–60 minutes, depending on the size and type of property. Larger homes may take slightly longer.
Do I need to be present for the assessment?
Not necessarily. Someone will need to provide access to the property, but you do not have to be present as long as the assessor can safely inspect all areas required.
Can I rent my property with a low EPC rating?
Most rental properties must meet the current minimum energy efficiency requirements. If your EPC rating is low, improvements may be needed before renting. We can provide advice on ways to improve your rating.
